We are interested in synaptic transmission and neuromodulation. We dissect mechanisms of the signaling machines for various neurotransmitters and ask how these transmission systems tune microcircuit function.

We are a group of researchers with a shared passion for experimental science, embedded in an superb and visionary environment in the Department of Neurobiology at Harvard Medical School. We strive for scientific excellence. Our studies include work on the assembly and functions of the release apparatus at synapses, and on the organization of modulatory transmission systems including those for dopamine, serotonin, norepinephrine, acetylcholine, and neuropeptides. We use a wide range of methodologies to dissect the mechanisms and roles of these transmission systems.
